The first stage of our epic journey through Western Europe's largest nature reserve sees us leaving Pralognan-la-Vanoise, on the north-west corner of the Vanoise National Park. Our intention was to walk just a single guidebook stage, but with beautiful sunshine and the mountains calling us forward, we didn't quite manage to stop there.
Instead we reached the end of the suggested stage and continued on, crossing through a high altitude garden of cairns and traversing right through the park. We ended up trekking for three stages on just that first day, exploding our resolve to take it easy.
It was worth it though, as I hope these pictures attest.
