Having had such a
good time watching the cows come down from the mountain in Ayer the previous week, we didn't want to miss another chance to watch the
cows come home. This time our destination was Grimentz where we had stayed for 9 days in June and where the cows would be passing through
the beautiful old town with sun blackened buildings decorated with
red geraniums.
On the hottest day
of the week yet we found an excellent spot in the sunshine just
outside of the tourist office where we watched first the herd and
then the top producing cows all decorated with flowers and finished
off with this years 'Reine', the most productive cow of the season.
It was also lovely
to return to Grimentz and personally thank the lovely tourist office
staff and Chantal in particular for having introduced us to the
Liberte pass and the Val d'Anniviers all those months ago. Without
their guidance we might have missed out on so much.
After the show of
cows lined up for the public, with a brass band belting out folk
tunes and a small market selling local produce we even found the time
to enjoy a round of minigolf on the very challenging 'Grimentz links'
just above the festival. Enjoying the music as we managed to lose our
gold balls in lots of interesting ways was a lovely way to finish off
the afternoon and look forward to our evening trip back to theobservatory for some stargazing.
